We recently had the pleasure to sit down with an EmpyreLounge.com favorite, Matt Nathanson. Matt was in town for a show at the Roxy in support of his great new CD, Some Mad Hope. Some Mad Hope is Nathanson's sixth studio CD, and first since 2003's Beneath These Fireworks, and is lead by the strong single "Car Crash." Give a Listen as we talk about Some Mad Hope, recording with his touring band, redoing older songs, and more.
1. How is the tour going so far?
2. 2003's Beneath These Fireworks was released on Universal. Are you happy with your switch to Vanguard Records?
3. Did it benefit Some Mad Hope to have you record it with your touring band consisting of John Thomaason, Aaaron Tap, and others?
4. Some Mad Hope also seems to show a new found confidence?
5. The great folks at PrettyTheWorld.com posted what looked like a short clip from the video you filmed for "Car Crash". Is that video finished now?
6. From some of the tour recordings that I have heard, it seems that people are more excited for the songs from Some Mad Hope?
7. You seem to be playing a lot of songs from Some Mad Hope compared to when Beneath These Fireworks was released?
8. Have you ever felt the urge to redo some of the older songs in your catalog?
9. We try to ask one hack question an interview...Some Mad Hope features "Detroit Waves". Why do you love Detroit?
10. Is this your first time playing the lovely Roxy, home to many a Chippendale's show?
11. The big story right now in music is the digital-only release of Radiohead's In Rainbows. Is that where you see the industry going?
I want to thank Matt for taking the to chat with me. Once again, Matt Nathanson just blew everyone away with his live show, and even treated the crowd to "Broken," a rarity in 1993's Please. We look forward to when Matt come back to Boston!
